(RICHMOND, Va.) Bowie State University had a couple of first' tonight in their match against Virginia Union University. The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs got out the broom and swept Virginia Union's Lady Panthers in three straight games, BSU's first sweep of the season. The win also gave Bowie State its first CIAA divisional victory of the year. Bowie State won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-22.

Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) led BSU's Lady Bulldogs with seven, six and five kills respectively. Nixon led Bowie State with a game-high five digs while Garner tied for game-high service ace honors with senior
Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD) with three each. Heath was also credited with two service aces.
Virginia Union's Lashira Williams led the Lady Panthers with a game-high 13 kills and added a service ace, a block solo and one dig. Camille Smith contributed nine kills to go along with four digs, a service ace and one block assists.
Bowie State ups their record to 3-17 overall, 3-9 in the CIAA and 1-4 in the East. Virginia Union's record goes to 4-16 overall, 2-9 in the CIAA and 2-3 in the East.
Bowie State will be back in action Thursday, October 8th for a home non-conference match against Goldey-Beacom College. Match time is 6 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
