Jamal Hyman (Plymouth, NC, T.C. Williams, Montgomery C.C. - Takoma Park) added 14 points off the bench to help Bowie State hold off the Chowan Hawks 76-71. Key free throw shooting down the stretch helped put the game out of reach for Chowan in the final three minutes of the contest.
Bowie State (1-1, 1-0 CIAA) went 22-of-31 from the foul line, which proved to be the difference in the game. Chowan made 10-of-16 free throws and won the battle of the boards with 41 rebounds to Bowie State's 31.
Chowan (1-1, 1-1 CIAA) and Bowie State were even in terms of field goal shooting percentage. Chowan ended the game hitting 26-of-62 field goals (42 percent) while the Bowie State Bulldogs hit 24-of-57 from the floor (42 percent).
The Chowan Hawks were paced by Jaleel Nelson, Layth Mansour and Mark Brown with 23, 12 and 11 points respectively in the loss.

Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) recorded his tenth career double-double in a Bulldogs uniform, scoring 11 points and hauling down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with two blocks.
Bowie State travels to Fayetteville State for a Monday (11/23) 7:30 p.m. CIAA match-up while Chowan hosts Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, also on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
