BOX SCORE

(MURFREESBORO, N.C.) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs got their first win of the season, claiming a 50-41 road win at the Chowan University Hawks. Seniors Denita Hill (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) and Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) led BSU with 10 points each.

The Hawks offense was slow to get started and scored just 11 first half points. Chowan bounced back with 30 second half points and cut the Bowie State lead to five (46-41) with 2:10 left in the game. However, the first half damage was too much for the Hawks to overcome.

Bowie State (1-2, 1-0 in the CIAA) out rebounded Chowan 48 to 39 in the game and hit 19-of-31 (37 percent) from the floor. After shooting 16 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, Chowan's Hawks came out to hit 36 percent (11-of-31) in the final period of play. Lee and senior Flodysha Peterson (Cambridge, MD, Cambridge South Dorchester) led Bowie State on the glass, grabbing eight boards each.

Brittany Nicholson scored a game-high 14 points and added seven rebounds and three assists to lead Chowan. Naomi Walters chipped in 12 points to go along with six rebounds and Tameka Christopher pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Hawks.

Eight other Bowie State Lady Bulldogs scored in the game, which included a half dozen each from junior Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy). The BSU trio Peterson, junior Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) and sophomore Andrea Watson (Baltimore, MD, Overlea) added four points apiece in the victory.

Chowan (0-2, 0-2 CIAA) welcomes Lincoln University of Pennsylvania to the Helms Center – Monday (11/23) for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference outing. Bowie State travels to Fayetteville (N.C.) State for a key CIAA contest – Monday (11/23) in the FSU Capel Arena.
