BOWIE STATE FALLS TWICE IN VOLLEYBALL SEASON OPENER

(SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.)  Shepherd University swept Bowie State in volleyball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Friday afternoon. The Rams earned a 25-9, 25-16, 25-13 victory.

Senior Itumeleng Shadreck (Botswana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) had three kills and three digs, while junior La Teasha Johnson (Arnold, MD, Antioch Christian School, Anne Arundel C.C.) added a team-high five digs to lead Bowie State.

Amanda Hall had nine kills and four blocks to pace the Rams. Kasey Mercier added seven kills, six digs, and four blocks, while Rebecca Russell added six kills and five blocks. Lauren Gardner also tallied six kills for the Rams.

East Stroudsburg (1-0) downed Bowie State (0-2), 25-17, 25-18, 25-11 in a later match. Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) recorded five kills, while junior Ashley Robinson (Cleveland, OH, Shaker Heights) and Shadreck each contributed four apiece for Bowie State.

Brianne Bachman and Kiersten Noll each had seven kills to lead the Warriors of East Stroudsburg.

BSU's Lady Bulldogs return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader hosted by Goldey-Beacom College.  Bowie State will take on Philadelphia University at 1 p.m. followed up with a match against Goldey-Beacom at 3 p.m.
