VIRGINIA UNION EDGES BOWIE STATE 3-2 IN CIAA DIVISIONAL ACTION

(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State spotted Virginia Union a 2-0 advantage over the first two games before winning the next two to tie the match a four. Unfortunately for Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs, Virginia Union won the deciding game five. VUU's Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 16-25 and 15-12.

Bowie State (0-5, 0-1 CIAA, 0-1 East), playing their first home match of the season, was led by junior JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson, Chowan Univ.) with a team-high 11 kills to go along with five service aces, nine digs and two block assists. Senior Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) tallied eight kills on the evening and was credited with four service aces nine digs. Freshman Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) rounded out BSU's top three players with five kills and accounted for five service aces and five digs. 

Camille Smith paced Virginia Union (3-3, 1-0 CIAA, 1-0 East) with a game-high 19 kills and 11 digs. Lashira Williams also knocked down double-digit kills, adding 17 to the score sheet to go along with a game-high 14 digs.

Bowie State will hit the road for a series of matches beginning with a neutral court match against Wilmington (DE), in the opening round of the Dutch Country Spiketacular hosted by Millersville (Pa.) University – Saturday, September 5th.
