VIRGINIA STATE DEFEATS LADY BULLDOGS 3-1 IN EASTERN DIVISION MATCH

(BOWIE, Md.)  Visiting Virginia State University extended the Bowie State University volleyball losing streak to seven games, beating the Lady Bulldogs 3-1.  The loss drops Bowie State's record to 1-16 overall, 1-8 in the CIAA and 0-3 in the Eastern Division.

Virginia State (4-11, 4-7 CIAA, 3-0 East) won the first two games 25-9 and 25-14.  Bowie State took game three by the score 25-21 but fell 25-22 in game four.

Junior JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson) and senior Itumeleng Shadreck (Botswana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) led BSU's Lady Bulldogs with eight and seven kills respectively.  Shadrek also led Bowie State with a team-high nine digs and added two block assists.  As a team, Bowie State ended the evening with a negative hitting percentage (-.026).

Junior Brooke Wilson (Baltimore, MD) paced Virginia State with a game-high 12 kills to go along with two service aces and two block assists.  Freshman Ariel Williams (Richmond, VA) put down double figure kills (10) and sophomore Brittini Pittman (Louisburg, NC) added six kills, three service aces and 11 digs.

Bowie State returns to action - Wednesday, September 30th, hosting the Lady Lions of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.  Match time is 6 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
