(NORFOLK, Va.) Old Dominion University, a member of the Division I Colonial Athletic Association breezed to a 77-45 exhibition victory over Bowie State University.  

Both teams started slow with Old Dominion holding an early 12-7 advantage. ODU's Lady Monarchs went on a 11-0 run to extend that lead to 23-7. Bowie State senior Brittney Jackson (Laurel, MD, Laurel) broke the drought with a layup at the 8:42 mark but went into halftime trailing 35-16.

Bowie State struggled from the floor in the first half, making just 7-of-31 field goals (23 percent). Old Dominion faired only slightly better with a 37 percent field goal percentage on 11-of-30 shooting. Half of ODU's first half field goals came from behind the arc, as the Lady Monarchs knocked down five in the first 20 minutes. BSU's Lady Bulldogs had a tough time from the free throw line as well in the first half, converting only 1-of-7.

Old Dominion began the second half with a 13-2 run and were never threatened for the rest of the evening. Bowie State went 1-of-5 over a six minute stretch and turned the ball over seven times during that period. Overall, Bowie State ended the night with a 29 percent field goal shooting percentage (15-of-52) and 14-of-24 from the charity stripe (58 percent). 

Junior Chanita Jordan (Philadelphia, PA, University City, North Carolina State) paced Bowie State with a team-high 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and senior Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) added 12 points.

JoNiquia Guilford and Jackie Cook led Old Dominion with 19 and 13 points respectively. Tia Lewis pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Monarchs.

As a team, Old Dominion wrapped up the contest with a 46 percent field goal shooting percentage (27-of-59), which included 9-of-18 behind the arc.

BSU's Lady Bulldogs will open the regular season (Tuesday) November 23rd at 5:30 pm, hosting the Lady Pioneers of Glenville State College.
