MISSED OPPORTUNITY SPELLS SETBACK FOR LADY BULLDOGS

Johnson C. Smith Defeats Bowie State in 3-2 Marathon

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) Johnson C. Smith University spotted Bowie State University a 2-0 set advantage before battling back to capture a 3-2 decision in Round 2 of the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up. Johnson C. Smith lost sets one and two by scores of 17-25 and 26-28 before winning the next three sets 25-11, 25-14 and 15-7. 

The Bowie State setbacks drop the Lady Bulldogs record to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the CIAA. Sophomore Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) continues her steady leadership for Bowie State, leading the team with six kills, six service aces and four digs. Freshmen Brelyn Finley (District Heights, MD, Charles H. Flowers) and Kyerra Martin (Capital Heights, MD, Forestville Military Academy) along with senior JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson, Chowan Univ.) tallied four kills. Freshman Kassondra Greis (Mount Airy, MD, Linganore) played a solid match, recording a match-high 15 assists to go along with four service aces and four digs. 

Leading the charge for Johnson C. Smith's Lady Golden Bulls were Jennifer Williams with a team-highs of eight kills and seven service aces. Alexis Webb accounted for a half dozen service aces. Sabrina Johnson, Kayla Bazemore and Tahlia Jolicoeur knocked down five kills each for Johnson C. Smith. 

Bowie State University will conclude the CIAA Round-Up with a 12 noon match against the Lady Bears of Shaw University - Sunday, September 19th.
