(MURFREESBORO, N.C.) Chowan University recorded 18 service aces and forced 21 errors as the Hawks shutout the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs 25-7, 25-13 and 25-5. The win improves Chowan's record to 16-3 overall while the Bowie State record falls to 5-15 overall, 2-9 in the CIAA and 1-4 in the North.
Chowan totaled six aces in the first set and opened up an early 10-4 lead. The Hawks then scored the next 12 points to go up 22-4 and were led by Tara Thomalla's four aces during the run.
Bowie State fought back in set two, keeping it close in the beginning. The Lady Bulldogs pulled within two at 12-10 but Chowan responded with a 13-3 run to take a two set to zero advantage.
It was all Chowan in the final set, as the Hawks jumped out to a 15-1 advantage and were well on their way to the three set sweep of Bowie State.
Sophomore
Briana Flowers had a pair of kills to go along with four digs to lead Bowie State, but the Lady Bulldogs ended the match with a negative .286 attack percentage.
Katrina Monroe led Chowan with 11 kills and three blocks. Megan Sawyer added seven kills for the Hawks and Nikira Fults along with Tori Lewis chipped in five kills each.
Bowie State will host Virginia University of Lynchburg in a doubleheader non-conference match – Wednesday (October 5th) beginning at 6 pm in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
