(ETTRICK, Va.) The Virginia State University Lady Trojans captured a three set to zero conference volleyball match over visiting Bowie State University. VSU won by scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 26-24 to sweep the season series. The loss puts Bowie State's record at 7-15 overall, 2-9 in the CIAA and 1-5 in the division.
Nikkisha Walker led Virginia State with six kills and nine digs. Jasmine Davis added six kills of her own to go along with four digs.
Virginia State (10-12, 8-4 CIAA) had an amazing .471 attack percentage in set one and ended the match with an attack percentage of .179. The Lady Trojans scored 11 service aces as a team and used their height advantage in the middle, knocking down three solo blocks and six block assists.
Freshman Jenayhe' Johnson paced Bowie State with five kills and sophomore
Briana Flowers along with freshman
Cara Nance added three and two kills respectively. Freshman
Paige McIntosh led the Lady Bulldogs with team-highs of seven assists and four service aces. Johnson and freshman
Remi Anderson led Bowie State with nine digs apiece.
Bowie State had only one set with a positive attack percentage (set three) and wrapped up the match with a negative attack percentage of .120.
Bowie State's next match is a Sunday (10/9) afternoon conference rematch at Virginia Union University. Match time is 1 pm in VUU's Barco-Stevens Hall.
