BSU LADY BULLDOGS HOLD ON TO DEFEAT LINCOLN (PA) LADY LIONS 60-50

Turner Leads Lady Bulldogs With 16 Points

(BOWIE, Md.) It wasn't pretty but Bowie State will take it, as the Lady Bulldogs hold off Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 60-55. Junior Juliette Turner (Atlanta, GA, John F. Kennedy) scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

Lincoln (PA) got off to a good start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before a pair of free throws by Bowie State senior Brittney Jackson added points to the Lady Bulldogs side of the scoreboard. The Lady Lions answered with an 8-3 run to give the visitors a little breathing room.

Lincoln (PA) held a 16-9 advantage with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Bowie State went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 19-19 following a pair of free throws by Turner. Turner put Bowie State up two on a layup on the Lady Bulldogs' next possession, and the Bulldogs closed the first period with a 14-7 run, sending the home team into halftime ahead 35-26.

Bowie State had tough time shooting in the first period, hitting only 11-of-38 field goals (29 percent) and missed all seven three-point attempts. The Lady Bulldogs did shoot free throws pretty good, hitting 13-of-17 in the first half of action.

The Lady Lions had an even tougher time making field goals in the first period, making only nine–of-34 (27 percent).

Bowie State's lead grew to 15 points (41-26) early in the second half before the Lady Bulldogs offense went cold. The Lincoln (PA) offense came alive, going on a 15-4 run to narrow the deficit to 45-41 with 11:53 left in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs responded with a 15-2 run over a five minute stretch to push the Bowie State lead back up to double-digits (56-42) at the 7:02 mark and Lincoln (PA) never threatened again.

Lincoln (2-17, 1-11 CIAA, 1-5 North) outworked Bowie State on the glass, ending the game with a 55-51 advantage. Patrice Ferguson led both teams with a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with six points a game-high four blocked shots. DeJuana Mosley came off the Lady Lions bench to lead her team with 16 points.

Outside of Turner's scoring, senior Brianna Taylor (Upper Marlboro, MD, Riverdale Baptist School, Cheyney) was the only other Bowie State player to reach double figures, adding 10 points. Senior Brittne Gowdy (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to along with eight points.

Bowie State (12-7, 8-4 CIAA, 5-1 North) will hit the road for its next two games with a Tuesday (February 8th) contest at Chowan and a Thursday (February 10th) game at Elizabeth City State.
