GAME TWO BOX SCORE

(PRINCESS ANNE, Md.) Bowie State University earned a split at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-25), winning game one 8-6 but dropping a 7-2 decision in game two. Senior Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) and freshman Renelle Traylor (Hayward, CA, San Lorenzo) led the Lady Bulldogs with four hits each over the two non-conference games.

The Lady Bulldogs overcame a 4-1 deficit in game one, scoring six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-4 advantage over the Division I Lady Hawks. Bowie State pounded out six hits in that key fourth inning. Sophomores Justine Smith (Silver Spring, MD, James Hurbert Blake) and Amanda Ray (Damascus, MD, Damascus) along with freshman Adria Lewis (Cumberland, MD, Fort Hill) all reached bases via doubles to spark the Lady Bulldogs.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore pulled to within one in their half of the fourth on just one hit. Amber Corrigan scored an unearned run after reaching base on an error by BSU's McClay. Jade Nelson scored the Lady Hawks' other unearned run in the inning, reaching on an error by Bowie State freshman Haley Snyder (Pennsauken, NJ, Pennsauken).

Traylor doubled to left in the top of the sixth, scoring sophomore Kristen Lee (Germantown, MD, Northwest) from second and putting the Lady Bulldogs in front to stay at 8-6. Traylor led Bowie State in the opener with three hits in four plate appearances and tied for team-high RBI honors (2) with Lewis.

The Lady Hawks began game two just like game one, putting two runs on the board in the first inning. McClay reached on a double to left center in her first at bat in the nightcap.

UMES (6-25) added to its lead in the second and third innings, scoring one and two respectively to take a 5-1 advantage.

Bowie State's final run in game two came in the top of the fifth inning. After Smith popped out, McClay tripled to left. Lewis followed that with a single to right, scoring McClay.

The Lady Hawks added their final runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth with Corrigan and Shanice Crowder crossing home out the scoring in game two.

Cy'Anna Scott recorded two hits to lead the Lady Hawks and Carmen Gurralo picked up the pitching victory.
