Chanita Jordan scored five points in overtime, which included her first career 3-pointer to help lift Bowie State to a 60-56 home finale win over Virginia State. The victory improves the first place Lady Bulldogs' record to 7-2 in the CIAA North (8-14 overall).
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a quick start against the Lady Trojans beginning with a 7-0 lead. Bowie State held a 10-4 advantage at the 13:27 mark of the first half before Virginia State outscored the Lady Bulldogs 15-9 to tie the game at 19-19 with 6:34 remaining.
Virginia State (14-12, 6-8 CIAA, 4-4 North) took their largest lead of the game at five (26-21) at the 4:40 mark of the first only to have Bowie State regain the lead and go into halftime with 30-26 advantage. It was the Virginia State bench that kept the Lady Trojans in the game over the first 20 minutes, scoring 22 of VSU's points.
Bowie State made 11-of-26 first half field goals (42 percent) and 6-of-8 from the free throw line (75 percent) in the first half. In comparison, Virginia State made 11-of-29 first half field goals (38 percent) and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
In the second half Bowie State led by as many as eight points, but Virginia State rallied down the stretch to tie the game at 49-49 on a jumper by Yashica Blackney with 1:19 left to play in regulation. A layup by Bowie State senior

Brooke Miles gave the Lady Bulldogs a three point lead (52-49). However, Virginia State's Marquilla Evans drained a 3-pointer with 15 seconds sending the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, BSU's Jordan and senior
Juliette Turner scored the first four points before VSU's Evans knocked down a jumper to pull the Lady Trojans within two at 56-54. With the shot clock running, Jordan drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the circle that gave Bowie State a five point advantage. Virginia State's Evans cut the Lady Trojans deficit to two on Virginia State's next possession, but would get no closer.
Evans came off the Virginia State bench to score a game-high 20 points. Da'Shae Jones scored 12 points and LaMesha Deal grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Lady Trojans
Bowie State (8-14, 8-7 CIAA, 7-2 North) was led by Turner's double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Miles added a dozen points and five rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs and Miles wrapped up the game with 11 points. Jordan handed out a career-high five assists in her final game in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season on the road (February 20th) against Virginia Union. Game time is 5:30 pm in VUU's Barco-Stevens Hall.
