ETTRICK, Va. – Three different Virginia State players recorded a match-high six kills each to lead the host Lady Trojans to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-10) sweep of Bowie State in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) North Division match on Thursday evening.
The Lady Trojans (7-3, 6-2 CIAA, 2-1 North) would finish the match with 30 kills and a hitting percentage of .400 compared to Bowie State's 17 kills and .000 hitting percentage.
Dierdre Carter, Aubree Parker and Alexsys Pullen tallied six kills apiece for Virginia State. Virginia State also collected 10 service aces with Diamond Simpson recording a match-high four.
Bowie State (2-18, 1-11 CIAA, 0-6 North) was led by freshman
Regan Taylor (Suffolk, Va.) with a team-high four kills. Junior
Brelyn Finley (District Heights, Md.) and
Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Va.) accounted for three kills each and freshman
Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) added a pair of kills. Sophomores
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) and
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) paced the Lady Bulldogs with 11 and six digs respectively. Senior
Briana Flowers (Millersville, Md.) led Bowie State with 11 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs will take a couple of days off before returning to action on Sunday, Oct. 13th, hosting the division leading Hawks of Chowan University. Match time in BSU's Leonidas S. James Complex (A.C. Jordan Arena) is 1 pm.
