Lady Bulldogs Play Inspired Volleyball in Four-Set Setback to Goldey-Beacom

Box Score BOWIE, Md. – The atmosphere was electric and the Lady Bulldogs played inspired volleyball before losing in four sets to Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday evening in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena. The loss sets the Bowie State overall mark at 1-11 while the Lightning improved their record to 4-6 overall. PHOTOS

The guest from Wilmington, Delaware edged Bowie State by a score of 25-23 in the first set of the evening. However, the BSU Lady Bulldogs fed off the spirited fans to taste a 25-20 victory in the second set. Goldey-Beacom rallied to win set three (25-19) and closed out the match with a 25-16 win in the final set.

Freshman India Mason (Greenbelt, Md.) continues to pay dividends for Bowie State, leading the team with 10 kills and a match-high four solo blocks. Senior Brelyn Finley (District Heights, Md.) contributed six kills to go along with one service ace, one dig, one solo block and a pair of block assists.

Sophomore Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and freshman Gennifer Afari (Lanham, Md.) added five kills each and combined for four digs. Three Lady Bulldogs picked up double-digit digs as sophomores Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) along with redshirt freshman Alicia Grant (Edgewood, Md.) picked up 20, 17 and 13 respectively.

Kadi McCoy (Dallastown, Pa.) and Taylor Moyer (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) paced the Goldey-Beacom Lightning with 17 and 10 kills respectively. McCoy added a match-high 21 digs to go along with three service aces. Grace McCarthy (Middletown, Del.) was responsible for five kills and added a match-high four service aces.

The Lady Bulldogs hit the road this weekend for CIAA Round-Up II hosted by Fayetteville (N.C.) State University. Bowie State opens against Saint Augustine's at 12 noon on Saturday (9/28) followed by a 6 pm contest against host Fayetteville State University. Bowie State will close out the weekend with an 11 am Sunday (9/29) match against Shaw University.
