Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Va. – The Bowie State University women's volleyball team picked up their first CIAA win of the season after taking down Livingstone College in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-23 and 25-21) on Saturday afternoon at the CIAA North-South Cross Divisional Round-Up hosted by Virginia Union University. Bowie State improves to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Juniors
Yaje Ngundam (Bowie, Md.) and
Alexis Fisher (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) led the BSU Lady Bulldogs in kills versus Livingstone, recording 12 and 10 respectively. BSU sophomore
Brooke Archer-Simpson (Bowie, Md.) tallied a match-high 22 assists to go along with three kills, two service aces and one dig. Ngundam also led both teams in service aces with five.
Livingstone was led by Lareecia Swiney with a team-high eight digs on 21 attacks while teammate LaPria Saunders contributed four kills, a team-high 12 assists and added three digs.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Bulldogs lost 3-0 to Johnson C. Smith by scores of 24-26, 17-25, and 14-25. Ngundam paced Bowie State with seven kills, while Fisher posted five kills for Bowie State. Redshirt junior
Marissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) served up a match-high and personal best five service aces for the Lady Bulldogs.
Khadijah Segura, Kathleen Janda and Gracyn Doctor ruled the net, knocking down nine kills each for Johnson C. Smith.
Bowie State will play the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University at 11 am Sunday morning (9/14) to close out the weekend Round-Up in Richmond.
