Andre Jackson (Baltimore, Md.) and
Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md.) scored 18 and 16 points respectively to lead Bowie State men's basketball to a 97-83 road win at West Virginia State on Sunday afternoon.
Other Bowie State (6-4) double figure scorers include senior
Justin Beck (Ellicott City, Md.) with 11 and junior
Michael Briscoe (Waldorf, Md.) with 10 points.
Andre Jackson hauled down a career-high 13 rebounds in the non-conference win.
With the game tied at 9-all, the Yellow Jackets went on an 11-0 run to take a 20-9 lead at the 12:36 mark of the opening half. The Bulldogs battled back to pull within four (26-22) with 9:20 left following a 3-pointer by senior
Kenneth Tappin (Hyattsville, Md.). A pair of Beck free throws followed by a field goal closed the Bulldogs deficit to 37-36 at the 5:02 mark.
Bulldogs shot 53.8 percent from the field (14-of-26) in the first half compared to 45.9 percent (17-of-37) for the Yellow Jackets. Late field goals by senior
Miles Jackson (Silver Spring, Md.) and Tappin sent Bowie State into halftime trailing 45-44.

Tai Marshall (Atlantic City, N.J.) steal and
Andre Jackson dunk with 13:19 left in second half. Bowie State extended its lead to 73-58 less than two minutes later.
A Beck triple at the 4:33 mark of the final half, gave the Bulldogs a game-high 18 point advantage (90-72), capping off a 10-0 Bowie State run.
The Bulldogs finished the game with a 48.6 field goal shooting percentage (35-of-72), which included 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) beyond the arc. Bowie State made 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) free throws, held a dominating 46-20 points in the paint advantage and out-rebounded West Virginia State 39-30.
West Virginia State (4-5) was led on offense by Markee Mazyck with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Frank Webb added 18 points to go along with game-high eight assists. Terrance Jenkins and Awwal Reid were the Yellow Jackets top rebounders with eight and six respectively. Bowie State's bench outscored WVSU's bench 54-25.
The Yellow Jackets made 7-of-11 first half 3-pointers but managed just 2-of-12 in the final 20 minutes before a sparse gathering of 131 spectators.
The Bulldogs will step away from competition to focus on final exams and enjoy some quality time with family during the Christmas break. Bowie State will close out 2015 with a New Years Eve non-conference home contest against Millersville (Pa.) University at 1 p.m.
