LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln University of Pennsylvania fought off a late game run by Bowie State University and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 75-67 on Saturday afternoon in the Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) led four Bowie State double figure scorers with 17 points. Sophomore
Kyah Proctor (Capitol Heights, Md.) contributed 16 points while fellow sophomores
Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) and
Robin Heard (Waldorf, Md.) added 12 points each. Proctor and Heard were the leading rebounders for the Lady Bulldogs, grabbing eight apiece.
The Lady Bulldogs held advantages in rebounds (33-32) and second chance points (13-9). Bowie State closed out the afternoon shooting 42.9 percent from the field (21-of-49) and 71 percent (22-of-31) at the free throw line.
Bowie State (9-8 / 2-5 CIAA / 0-1 North) trailed 30-29 at halftime but shot 50 percent from the field (10-of-20) and made 9-of-12 free throws (75 percent).
Lincoln (Pa.) led the entire first half and made 10-of-25 field goals (40 percent), which included 4-of-11 behind the 3-point line and converted 6-of-10 free throws (60 percent).
Bowie State took their second lead of the game with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter following a pair of free throws by Proctor.
The Lady Bulldogs led 56-52 early in the fourth quarter only to have the Lady Lions retake the lead for good at the 6:53 mark following a Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md.) layup.
Lincoln (9-6 / 4-3 CIAA / 1-0 North) was led by LenNee Kimbell (Springdale, Md.) with a team-high 16 points. Pendleton scored 15 points and Amani Clark (Middletown, Del.) along with Dejah Taylor (Nanuet, N.Y.) tallied 13 and 12 points respectively for the Lady Lions. The Lincoln trio of Taylor, Clark and Mieana Gaines (Detroit, Mich.) hauled down five rebounds each. The Lady Lions ended the contest shooting 49 percent from the field (24-of-49).
The Lady Bulldogs return to the hardwood on Wednesday (January 20th) to face the nationally ranked Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University. Game time in VUU's Barco-Stevens Hall is set for 5:30 p.m.
