Bowie State Bulldogs Fall Short at #25 Fairmont State, 100-97

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Bowie State University men's basketball gave #25 Fairmont State a scare on Saturday (11/12) evening, falling just short by a score of 100-97 to close out the Joe Retton Classic.

Bowie State was led by junior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) with 23 points and five rebounds in the loss. The Bulldogs also got 19 points from junior Omari George (Baltimore, Md.), 18 from junior Dayshawn Wells (Baltimore, Md.), 12 from senior Michael Briscoe (Baltimore, Md.) and 10 from senior Enuoma Ebinum (Greenbelt, Md.).

The Falcons, who led by as many as 19 at the 6:36 mark of the second half, turned the ball over five times in the final 6:36 of the game and were outscored 29-13 during the stretch. However, a 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line and a layup by Vonte Montgomery in the final minute of the game helped the Falcons fend off the Bulldogs.

In total, the Falcons turned the ball over 23 times on the evening. Bowie State held a slight advantage in the category but also turned the ball over 20 times.

The Falcons were led by Thomas Wimbush with 21 points and 16 rebounds, going 8-of-12 from the field. Jason Jolly recorded 21 points in the win. The Falcons also got 18 points from Vonte Montgomery and 10 from Matt Bingaya. Shammgod Wells led the Falcons in assists with eight.

Both teams shot extremely well from the field, with FSU connecting on nearly 53 percent of its field goals (37-of-70). Bowie State was just under 50 percent from the field at 49.3 percent (33-of-67). The Falcons also scored over half their points in the paint, holding a 54-42 scoring advantage in the post.

Bowie State returns to the hardwood on Tuesday (11/15) to face Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference contest at IUP's Kovalchick Complex.
