Bowie State Softball Earns Non-Conference Split at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior Caitlin O'Neill (Elkton, Md.) and sophomore Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) combined for nine hits to help Bowie State University to a doubleheader non-conference split at East Stroudsburg University. East Stroudsburg edged Bowie State 4-2 in game one but Bowie State won game two by a score of 3-1.

Sophomore Jacqueline Pickering tallied three hits over two games while senior Danielle Watt (St. Leonard, Md.) and freshman Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) recorded a pair of hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomores Emily Lewis (Havre de Grace, Md.) and Stefanie Ray (Damascus, Md.) added one hit each in the doubleheader.

Ochoa, Pickering and O'Neill recorded two hits apiece in the Lady Bulldogs' opener against the Warriors. Bowie State's two runs in game one came via homeruns by Pickering in the first inning and Ochoa in the fifth inning. Ochoa (1-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 hits and striking out three of 26 batters faced.

In the second game, Bowie State (4-8) scored three runs in the first inning and Ray limiting East Stroudsburg to one run on four hits to earn the split. Game two was shortened due to lightning with the Lady Bulldogs holding a 7-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth. However, the final (3-1) margin was determined based off the score at the end of fifth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs pounded out nine hits in game two with O'Neill and Ochoa leading the offense with three and two hits respectively.

East Stroudsburg (6-2) totaled 14 hits over two games compared to 18 hits for Bowie State.
