Softball Sweeps Elizabeth City State 4-1 and 4-0

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Bowie State University softball team concluded its regular season on Monday afternoon (4/25) sweeping Elizabeth City State University 4-1 and 4-0. The win secures the Lady Bulldogs a No. 2 seed in the CIAA Northern Division heading into the week's conference championships.

Bowie State (13-21, 9-5 CIAA) was paced by senior Caitlin O'Neill (Elkton, Md.) with a game-high five hits in seven at bats while freshmen Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) added three hits. Sophomores Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) and Stefanie Ray (Damascus, Md.) earned the wins on the bump, striking out a combined 19 Elizabeth City State batters.
 
Elizabeth City State (4-21, 3-11 CIAA) was led by Rachel Gilliken (South Mills, N.C.) and Morgan Howell (Windsor, N.C.) with a team-high three hits apiece over the two games. Kambrie Robinson (Lexington, Okla.) added a pair of hits and was responsible for the Lady Vikings' only RBI of the afternoon. The ECSU duo of Lashika Basnight (Plymouth, N.C.) and Diamond Davis (Roper, N.C.) contributed one hit each in the losses.
 
Elizabeth City State pitchers, Kelsey White (Askewville, N.C.) and Gilliken gave up 18 total hits, 13 in the first game, going the distance (7.0 innings) respectively.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will now turn their attention to Thursday's (4/28) CIAA Spring Championships opening round opponent. Bowie State will take on the Johnson C. Smith University, the No. 3 seed in the conference's Southern Division at 12 noon. All games will be played at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.
