Bowie State Bulldogs Pickup First Division Win in 103-80 Rout of Elizabeth City State

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University Bulldogs routed Elizabeth City State University on Saturday afternoon, winning by a final score of 103-80 in the A.C. Jordan Arena. The victory snapped a four-game slide and sets the Bowie State record at 8-13 overall, 5-6 in the CIAA and 1-4 in the Northern Division.
 
Six Bulldogs scored in double figures with junior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) leading the attack with 21 points. Senior Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md.) and redshirt freshman David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.) tallied 12 points each while junior Dayshawn Wells (Baltimore, Md.) accounted for 11 points. Senior Michael Briscoe (Waldorf, Md.) and junior Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) contributed 10 points apiece in the win.
 
Elizabeth City State (0-17, 0-10 CIAA), 0-5 North) held a small lead early in the first half with the last coming at the 15:36 mark and a 9-8 Vikings lead.
 
Bowie State responded with an 11-0 run to break the game open and the Bulldogs went into intermission with a 55-37 cushion. The Bulldogs hit 16-of-28 first half field goals (57.1 percent) and 20-of-25 free throws. Compare that to Elizabeth City State's 33.3 percent from the field (12-of-36), which included 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) beyond the arc.
 
The Bulldogs maintained a double-digit lead until a Kyree Marshall (Woodbridge, Va.) layup trimmed the Vikings deficit to eight (63-55) at the 13:51 mark of the second half but that would be a close as the visitors would get.
 
Bowie State's hot shooting continued in the second half with the home team hitting 18-of-32 from the field (56.3 percent), which included 6-of-9 behind the 3-point line. Overall, the Bulldogs finished the game with a season-high 56.7 percent field goal shooting percentage.
 
The Vikings on the other hand, managed just 35.9 percent field goal shooting overall (23-of-64). Elizabeth City State was led by Elon Edwards' (Greenville, N.C.) 15 points (all 3-pointers). Jordan Jones (Ahoskie, N.C.) scored 12 points followed by John Maynor (Raeford, N.C.) and Tioreon Land (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 11 and 10 points respectively. Matthew McIntosh pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the loss to go along with eight points and a pair of assists.
 
Bowie State outscored Elizabeth City State 40-22 in the paint, 12-5 in second chance points and out-rebounds the Vikings 41-39. The Bulldogs also held advantages in points off turnovers (16-12) and bench points (41-31).
 
Bowie State's Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (February 4th) for a nationally televised game (Aspire Network) at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. Tip-time is set for 4 p.m. in Lincoln's Manuel Rivero Hall.
