BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University volleyball played with tremendous grit and enthusiasm against Chowan University on Sunday afternoon before falling in straight sets by scores of 15-25, 21-25 and 22-25 in the A.C. Jordan Arena.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 1-19 overall, 0-13 in CIAA play and 0-7 in the division. Chowan improves its record to 10-10 on the year, 9-3 in the CIAA and remain perfect in the division at 6-0.
Bowie State was led by senior
Kiana Moore (Newark, Del.) with six kills on 17 attacks and added four digs and one block. The Bulldogs tandem of senior
Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.) and
Sydney Tucker (Columbia, Md.) recorded five kills each on a combined 24 attacks.
Freshman
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) was responsible for a team-high 13 digs to go along with one kill and a team-high seven digs for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs finished the match with a team attack percentage of .092 compared to .163 for the Hawks.
Chowan Hawks were led on offense by Makayla Castro (Scottsbluff, Neb.) with a match-high 10 kills on 25 attacks, contributed three service aces and picked up six defensive digs. Bailey Zavala (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Alyssa Born (Dyer, Ind.) accounted for 15 and 10 digs respectively for Chowan and Karisa Patterson (St. Augustine, Fla.) paced both teams with a match-high 22 assists.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Tuesday (October 17) hosting the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State at 6 p.m. in the A.C. Jordan Arena.
