BOWIE, Md. - Bowie State University is home of the reigning 2017 CIAA Champions. Last season the Bulldogs went on an incredible run in the conference tournament playing four straight days in route to the Championship. Senior
Ahmaad Wilson who was a junior at the time, led the Bulldogs in scoring during the 2016-2017 season and was named CIAA Tournament and Finals Most Valuable Player. Wilson, a preseason All-CIAA selection is back to lead the Bulldogs this year for his final season. Wilson has been a prolific scorer for Bowie State during his career as he ranks sixth all-time in school history in scoring. Â
Â
Along with Wilson returning is another preseason All-CIAA selection in
Omari George and four-year captain, senior point guard Dayshwan Wells. Wells' leadership and George's versatility will be vital to the Bulldogs success this year. George has been regarded as one of the better two-way players in the CIAA. Redshirt sophomore
David Belle, who won the Bulldogs midnight madness dunk contest, is an athletic wing who likes to play above the rim and can drop twenty any given night. Â
Â
Senior
Tai Marshall returns to the program after missing the entire 2016-2017 season due to an ACL injury. Marshall will be key this season as he gives the Bulldogs the presence of a big man. Joining Marshall in the front court will be senior sky-walker Jemuel Brown and sophomore Yohance Fleming, who played huge minutes down the stretch for the Bulldogs on their CIAA title run and should do the same this season. Â
Â
Bowie State's Bulldogs have an abundance of young talent that are expected to make huge impacts during the 2017-2018 season. Freshman guards Justin Route and Jacob Long can flat-out score. Route and Long each scored over 15 points a game in their senior year of high school. The Bulldogs also added sophomore transfer Saiquan Jamison and freshmen Keith Duffin to the roster. Jamison and Duffin can run the floor and should give the opponents trouble all year long at both ends of the floor. Sophomore Cameron Hayes will also see time for the Bulldogs at the wing position as well. Â
Â
Bowie State will tip-off their season tonight (Friday, Nov. 10) against host Shepherd University as part of the Clarion Hotel Classic. This is a two-day event for the Bulldogs and will face Wheeling Jesuit University on Saturday afternoon.Â
