Bulldogs Women’s Basketball Falls 98-47 in Maryland Exhibition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) scored a team-high 12 points as Maryland cruised to a 98-47 exhibition victory over Bowie State on Friday evening. The Bowie State trio of seniors Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.), Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) and junior Pere Alexander (Baltimore, Md.) added six points apiece in the setback. Proctor was the teams' leading rebounder with nine to go along with two assists and three steals.
 
As a team, Bowie State finished the night with a 30.2 field goal shooting percentage (19-of-63) and only had 16 opportunities at the free throw line, making four (25 percent).
 
With the Bulldogs trailing 8-5 at the 7:11 mark of the first quarter, the Terps went on an 11-0 run to end the first quarter with a 19-5 advantage and never looked back. Bowie State's drought continued into the second quarter before a Baker triple stopped the Maryland run but left the Bulldogs at a 28-8 deficit with 7:14 left in the quarter. Maryland held a 47-18 edge at the break.
 
Five different Terrapins would finish in double figures on the night. Blair Watson did most of the damage recording a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Fraser contributed 19 points and Sarah Myers added 15 points. Kristen Confroy and Channise Lewis rounded out Maryland's double figure scorers with 10 points each.
 
In terms of team statistics, Maryland shot 51.5 percent from the field on 34-of-66 shooting from the field that included 9-of-23 behind the arc. The Terps had a field day at the free throw line, knocking down 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) at the charity stripe and held a decisive 55-28 advantage on the glass.
 
Bowie State will officially open its 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 versus Kutztown in game one of the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg (Pa.) University. The Bulldogs and the Golden Bears will tip off at 1 p.m. Later that weekend, Bowie State will face host Shippensburg at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.
