BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State women's basketball team is coming off their best season in a few years. The Bulldogs finished the 2016-2017 season with a 20-8 overall record and 11-5 mark in the CIAA. Last year the Bowie State snuck up on teams, but this year they will be the hunted. Returning for the Bulldogs will be the senior trio of preseason All-CIAA selections
Kyah Proctor and Kiara Colston and
Lisa Jing. Proctor, Colston and Jing are the heart and soul of the 2017-2018 team. Jing understands that they will get other teams best shot now. "We know this year were not sneaking up anyone, don't believe we're the hunted, but people know who we are", said Jing.
These three seniors grew up together for the Bulldogs over the years as they went through the ups and downs of the women's basketball programs. "There definitely have been some struggles since we first got here especially with being young and not as talented as we are now, but we kept working and trusted our coaches and now we have a great team", Jing added. Last year the trio took that next step and made some noise in the CIAA. This trio was the focal point of last year's team but weren't the only contributors by any means. Also returning for the Bulldogs is Kyaja Williams an All-CIAA rookie performer and redshirt junior Pere Alexander. Williams and Alexander like the senior trio, had huge impacts in the Bulldogs' success during the 2016-2017 campaign. Returning back for the Bulldogs this year is sharp-shooter
Ty-Nita Baker. Baker played for Bowie State in 2015, but now returns for the Bulldogs to give them a go to three-point shooter when one is needed. The Bulldogs will begin its season this Friday (November 10) as a participant in the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic and will face Kutztown University at 1 p.m. The Classic is hosted by Shippensburg (Pa.) University.
