WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior
Kyah Proctor fell two points of her career-high, leading Bowie State University with 26 points and an 81-64 road victory at Winston-Salem State University on Monday afternoon inside the C.E. Gaines. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-3 on the season and pull even at 1-1 in conference play.

Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) added 14 points followed by sophomore
Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) with nine points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds and senior
Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) with eight points. Sophomore
Dynaisha Christian (Pocomoke, Md.) came off the Bowie State bench and contributed a career-high seven points and tied her career-high in rebounds with six.
The Bulldogs shot 38.7 percent from the field in the first half (13-of-31) compared to 57.1 percent (12-of-21) for the Rams and trailed Winston-Salem State 36-34 at halftime. Bowie State did hold a six-point advantage (16-10) at the 1:57 mark of the first quarter with Proctor leading the Bulldogs offense with 11 points.
Bowie State regained the lead at 47-45 at the 3:40 mark of the third quarter with Proctor continuing her offensive dominance. The Bulldogs extended their lead to a game-high nine (58-49) with 1:25 remaining and took a 58-51 lead into the final quarter of play.
Winston-Salem State (4-7 / 0-3 CIAA) began the final quarter with a 4-0 run before a pair f free throws by Baker stopped the run. Bowie State pushed the lead back to nine at the 7:09 mark after a pair of free throws by Williams.
The Bulldogs lead grew to 75-62 with 3 minutes left in the contest and Bowie State held WSSU's Rams to just three points the rest of the way.
Brionna Pate and Teara Johnson led the Winston-Salem State Rams with 18 and 13 points respectively while Tiana Edwards tallied 10 points. Pate pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Bowie State closed out the game with a 42.6 field goal shooting percentage (26-of-61), which included 4-of-11 behind the 3-point line and the Bulldogs knocked down 21-of-36 at the charity stripe. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Rams 41-38, outscored WSSU 30-26 in the paint and held a 25-7 advantage in the paint.
Winston-Salem State's Rams ended the game hitting 20-of-51 from the field (39.2 percent), which included a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in the second quarter.
The Bowie State women's basketball team will break for Christmas before returning home to host three CIAA Southern Division opponents, beginning with a (Thursday) January 4th matchup against the Saint Augustine's University Falcons at 5:30 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
