MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Bowie State University softball team played their final non-conference games of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a pair to Millersville by scores of 4-3 and 8-0.
Bowie State (13-17) wasted no time in game one, plating three in the bottom of the 1st inning. Junior
Ja'seph Smith (Bowie, Md.) hit a leadoff double to start the game and fellow junior
Jacqueline Pickering (Bowie, Md.) followed with a single to left, advancing Smith to third. Smith scored an illegal pitch. A single by
Inaya Jones (Baltimore, Md.) pushed Pickering across the dish for a 2-0 lead. Jones scored from third following a single to left by sophomore
Jaelyn Belt (Glen Burnie, Md.) for a 3-0 Bulldogs advantage.
The Marauders bats came alive in the bottom of the 4th inning as Millersville was able to battle back to tie the game at 3-all.
Millersville (21-22) took the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th inning following a Rebecca Blatt sacrifice fly that scored Megan McCurdy and held on to capture the win in game. Cassidy Pinchchorski earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits, striking out three and walking three.
It was all Millersville in the nightcap as Bowie State committed six errors. The Marauders tallied nine hits in game two compared to five for the Bulldogs. Brittany Smith paced Millersville with a game-high three hits in the second game shutout.
Millersville pitcher Emma Bevard was locked in from the start, striking out two of the first three batters she faced. In the bottom of the third inning Raeann Buskey and Heather Lutz would reach base bringing up Brittany Smith who smoked a double down the left field line that gave the Marauders an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth Jayne Black doubled to left field scoring Kelsey Campbell and Megan McCurdy to make the score 4-0. Buskey ripped one through the hole as two more runs came home to make it 6-0.
In the sixth inning Brittany Smith singled to left field putting runners on the corners for the pinch hitter. Sam Waldman stepped up to the plate and hit one in the right-center gap plating Nicole Burke and Smith to seal the 8-0 shutout for Millersville.

Megan Visele (Great Mills, Md.) and juniors
Lindsey Fenner (Aberdeen, Md.) and
Emily Lewis (Aberdeen, Md.) posted one hit each for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs return home to host conference and division foe Chowan University in doubleheader on a Friday (4/21) that will decide the CIAA Northern Division crown. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m.
