KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team took down visiting Bowie State University on Wednesday night in straight sets (3-0) in non-conference action.
Freshman
Sydney Tucker (Columbia, Md.) recorded a team-high three kills on 11 attacks for Bowie State's Bulldogs (0-5) while junior
Brittainy Houck (Burns, Ore.) contributed a pair of kills on a team-high 17 attacks to go along with five digs and one service ace.
Freshman
Kilana Jenkins (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied a match-high 10 digs for the Bulldogs while freshmen
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) and
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) were responsible for a team-high three assists.
The Golden Bears (3-6) threw down 21 service aces in its victory compared to only two for the Bulldogs. Eighth different Golden Bears tallied aces, led by five apiece from Alli Henderson (Boalsburg, Pa.) and Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa.).
Henderson also led the charge offensively for KU, knocking down seven kills in two sets of action. Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa.) had five kills on eight attacks. Madelyn Edsell (Wyalusing, Pa.) and Abby Daniels (Exton, Pa.) each finished with three kills. Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa.) paced Kutztown recorded a match-high 14 assists with three aces to go along with five digs.
Kutztown's top set was the second, swinging at a .400 clip and allowing six points to highlight its 25-11, 25-6, 25-15 win.
Bowie State opens its home season and conference play on Saturday (September 16), hosting Johnson C. Smith at 12 p.m. followed by Livingstone at 6 p.m. as part of CIAA Round-Up #1.
