BOWIE, Md. – Playing its first home game after three opening season road games, Bowie State men's basketball suffered a tough 75-71 setback on Saturday evening to Bloomfield College. The loss is Bowie State's fourth loss in as many games.
There were bright spots for the Bulldogs as four Bowie State players scored in double figures with sophomore
Keith Duffin, Jr. leading the way with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Redshirt junior
David Belle led all Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while juniors
Juwun Smith and
Cameron Hayes chipped in 13 and 10 points respectively.
Bowie State (0-4) and Bloomfield went into halftime tied at 35-all as the visiting Bears knocked down 52 percent of its shots (15-of-29) over the first 20 minutes compared to 33 percent (14-of-42) for the Bulldogs.
The game featured six ties and four lead changes with Bowie State holding its largest lead of four (35-31) at the 1-minute mark of the opening half. However, that would be last lead for the home team for the remainder of the night.
With the scored tied 42-all early in the second half, Bloomfield used an 11-2 run and were never really threatened from that point on. The Bears pushed its lead to a game-high 12 (66-54) following a tip-in by Matt Lejeunesse with 5:56 remaining in the game.
Bowie State did manage to trim the deficit to 74-71 late in the contest after a Belle jumper but Bloomfield played keep away over the final 34 seconds to seal the win.
Bloomfield (1-3) was led by a pair of double-double performers as Kavione Green posted a game-high 19 points and 18 rebounds and Lejeunesse recorded 11 points and hauled down 12 rebounds. Dontay Julius and Keith Washington added 12 and 10 points respectively while the Bears out-rebounded the Bulldogs 48-41.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday (November 20th) playing a non-conference game at West Chester University of Pennsylvania at 7 p.m.
