BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State University women's basketball team topped Felician College 66-34 to extend its win streak to four in a row in Wednesday evening's non-conference matchup.
The Bulldogs started the game on a 7-0 run before Felician's Kayla Diaz knocked down a three to stop the bleeding at 7-3 with 5:13 to go in the first quarter. This was the closest the Golden Falcons (0-3) got to the streaking Bowie State.
Junior guard
Amel Duggins led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field which included 3-of-5 from behind the arc as the Bulldogs improved to 5-1 on the season. The guard's play was instrumental in the team building a 25-14 halftime lead over Felician.
The Golden Falcons struggled all game finding the basket and were horrendous from the three-point line after going 14.3 percent (4-of-28) and 15.7 percent (8-of-51) in total field goals. Junior forward Shaelee Brown was the only bright spot for Felician as she nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs were relentless in the third quarter, holding the Golden Falcons to just 10 points, while they scored 19 points to increase its lead 44-24.
Bowie State kept the pressure, outscoring Felician 22-10 over the final 10 minutes of play. The Bulldogs defense allowed Felician only two field goals in the fourth quarter while recording a game-high 47.6 percent in shooting from the field compared to 16.7 percent for Felician.
Bowie State made 37.5 percent (27-of-72) of their field attempts and shot 55.9 percent from the free throw line. Team leading scorer (16.3 ppg) junior
Kyaja Williams had a quiet game with only six points and nine total rebounds in 27 minutes while junior Danaisha Christian hauled down a personal career-high and game-best 14 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass.
The Bulldogs controlled the glass and the paint, out-rebounding the Golden Falcons 54-37 and held a 34-0 advantage in points in the paint. Bowie State used Felician's 30 turnovers to create 20 BSU points off those turnovers.
The Bulldogs will look to keep its winning ways alive on Saturday (December 1st) when Bowie State hosts Washington Adventist University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
