BOWIE, Md. – Make it five wins in a row for Bowie State University women's basketball following Saturday's (12/1) 58-35 home victory over Washington Adventist University.
Bowie State (6-1) scored 17 points and both the first and second quarters while the Bulldogs' defense held the Washington Adventist Shock to five in the first 10 minutes and eight points in the second quarter, taking a comfortable 34-13 advantage heading in to halftime,
With the scored tied at 2-2, the Bulldogs used a 7-0 run to open a 9-2 lead at the 4:46 mark of the first quarter and led the Shock 17-5 at the end of the quarter, holding Washington Adventist to 18 percent shooting from the field (2-of-11).
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the second quarter, limiting the Shock to just 3-of-13 field goals while knocking down 7-of-18 (39 percent) of their own. Bowie State converted 14 Washington Adventist first half turnovers into 12 points.
The Washington Adventist Shock (5-5) managed just two field goals in the third quarter but hit 5-of-8 at the free throw line to outscore the Bulldogs 9-4 but trailed 38-22 heading into the final quarter of non-conference play.
Bowie State went deep into their bench in the fourth quarter, doubling up Washington Adventist 49-29 and held the visitors to just two field goals over the final 4:08.

Amel Duggins and
Shawnkia McCallum tallied 15 and 10 points respectively while fellow junior
Kyaja Williams grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points to pace the Bulldogs in the win. Freshman
Chyna Butler contributed eight points of the Bulldogs' bench on 4-of-6 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. Junior
Dynaisha Christian and freshman
Drew Calhoun recorded seven and six points respectively in the win while redshirt senior
Pere Alexander added two points
Amber Mormon paced Washington Adventist with a team-high nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Christine Mabry was responsible for eight points in the loss and Yamirah Bennett-Bernabela along with Chynna Smith tallied for points each for the Shock.
The Bulldogs return to the court Monday (December 10) on the road at the University of the District of Columbia at 5:30 p.m.
