WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia snapped a Bowie State four-game winning streak and edged Bowie State men's basketball 84-80 on Wednesday night. The loss sets the Bulldogs record at 4-6 overall are mark just the second time in the last 15 meetings the Firebirds have beaten the Bulldogs.

Junior
Cameron Hayes came off the Bowie State bench to record a game-high 23 points in just 22 minutes and added eight rebounds. Fellow juniors
Saiquan Jamison and
Keith Duffin, Jr. scored 10 points each in the setback. Jamison was the games' leading rebounder with 11.

Yohance Fleming chipped in nine points while junior teammates
Juwun Smith and
David Belle tallied eight point apiece. Junior
Rinardo Perry accounted for six points, four assists and four rebounds and sophomore

Elijah Epps rounded out Bowie State's scorers with five and one respectively.
UDC (6-4) shot the ball extremely well in the first 10 minutes of action, scoring at a 59 percent clip from the field (16-of-27) which led to a 49-44 lead at intermission. The difference for the Firebirds in the first half were free throws as UDC knocked down 11-of-13 at the charity stripe.
Bowie State made more first half field goals (18-of-37) but had seven opportunities at the free throw line, making two in the first half of play. The Bulldogs bench was responsible for half of the teams first half points with Fleming and Hayes combining for 19.
The Bulldogs trailed by as much as 12 at one point (27-15) at the 12:53 mark of the first half
BSU's Hayes knotted the score at 52-all and the gave the Bulldogs its first lead of the night via a triple with 16:35 on the clock, forcing UDC to call a timeout. Hayes drilled another 3-pointer to give Bowie State a 58-52 lead at the first media timeout of the second half.
UDC's Danny Shand shifted the advantage back over to the Firebirds at 61-60 with a trey ball of his own at the 13:41 mark.
Hayes knocked down another 3-pointer to shift the lead back over to the Bulldogs at 65-63 but Zacahry Olukanni's 3-point play put the home team back in from at 66-65.
With the Firebirds leading 68-65
David Belle popped a 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie things up at 68-all only to have UDC run off four straight points to take a 72-68 lead with 9:06 remaining in regulation, forcing Bowie State to burn a timeout.
UDC took its largest lead of the second half of 78-70 with 5:12 to go after a fast break layup by Olukanni and opened a double-digit lead following a twisting reverse layup by Kevin Cox.
Bowie State narrowed the margin to 80-78 with 54.1 seconds left, thanks to back-to-back
Rinardo Perry layups.
However, UDC paraded to the free throw line for the remainder of the game, knocking down 4-of-5 to secure the victory.
Olukanni led the UDC Firebirds with 21 points while the duo of Cox and Shand added 18 and 17 respectively.
Bowie State's Bulldogs return to the court Wednesday, December 16th hosting the Rams of Winston-Salem State with tip time scheduled for 4 p.m.
