ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Bowie State University softball did not have a positive result in either game of the CIAA Round-Up finale. The Bulldogs suffered a 4-3 setback to Shaw University on Sunday (3/18) morning and were beaten 11-1 by Winston-Salem State University in BSU's final game of the weekend.
Over the two-game set, Bowie State's batting average was .244 compared to .304 for the opponents. Senior
Inaya Jones (Baltimore, Md.) paced the Bulldogs with a .500 batting average, going 2-of-4 at the plate, which included one double. Senior Tiffany Bears (Lusby, Md.) and redshirt sophomore
Madison Margas (Stevensville, Md.) finished the day with a batting average of .400 in five at bats each.
As a team, Bowie State (3-8 / 2-4 CIAA) had seven hits in game one versus Shaw with Bearns leading the way with two hits.
Senior
Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) took the loss in the circle against Shaw, giving up six runs, three earned runs, walked two and struck out one.
It was all Winston-Salem State in game two as the Rams jump on the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring seven runs and were never threatened. The Rams pounded out eight hits which included a pair of two-run home runs.
Bowie State managed just three hits against Winston-Salem State with Margas, Jones and junior
Jaelyn Belt (Glen Burnie, Md.) responsible for one hit each. Jones pitched four innings for the Bulldogs, strking out one but walked four of 25 batters faced.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday (March 21st) and will face Washington Adventist University in a non-conference road doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Takoma Park, Md., weather permitting.
