BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State University softball team obliterated Trinity (D.C.) University on Tuesday afternoon, spanking the Tigers 37-1 and 37-1 in non-conference action. BSU's Bulldogs tallied a season-high 65 hits over the two games and improve its season mark to 7-10 overall heading into the Easter weekend.

Seniors
Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) and
Jacqueline Pickering (Bowie, Md.) recorded double figure hits for Bowie State with 10 each, tallied a dozen RBI each and combined to account for 19 runs in the doubleheader sweep. Â Of Bearns' 10 hits, six were doubles and cracked a homerun in the whitewash.

Lindsey Fenner (Havre de Grace, Md.) pounded out eight hits for the Bulldogs while senior
Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) finished with seven total hits. Senior
Ja'seph Smith (Bowie, Md.), junior
Morgan Powell (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and freshman
Morgana Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) were responsible for six hits apiece.

Trinity (0-8) was held to just two hits all afternoon with Angelica Rodriguez and Ramona Santana accounting for them. The Tigers defense also suffered, being charged with nine errors in game one and a half dozen more in game two.

In the opening game, the Bulldogs put up double-digit runs in each of the first three innings with 13, 10 and 12 respectively. Bowie State beat up Trinity pitching for 32 hits and Ochoa breezed to the game one win in the circle.

Inaya Jones (Baltimore, Md.) along with junior transfer
Asia-Marie Young (Joppa, Md.) chipped in four hits each in the double-dip while redshirt sophomore
Madison Margas (Stevensville, Md.) and freshman
Morgan White (Baltimore, Md.) rounded out the Bowie State roster with one hit apiece.

The Trinity Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the 1st inning of game two. Santana hit a leadoff single and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs answered with seven runs in their half of the opening frame and followed up with 12 and 13 runs respectively in the 2nd and 3rd innings for a 32-1 cushion. Bowie State punished Trinity pitching for five more runs on six hits in the bottom of the 4th inning to account for the final margin.

Bowie State racked up 33 hits in game two. Powell pitched her first game of the year in the circle, striking out nine of 16 batters faced.

The Bulldogs return to (CIAA) conference play on Friday (March 30), traveling to Winston-Salem (N.C.) State to take on the Rams in doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
