LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - Bowie State University volleyball had a rough start on day one of the CIAA Round-Up #1, coming up short to Johnson C. Smith (3-0) and Livingstone (3-0) on Saturday (9/8) afternoon. The setbacks set the Bulldogs early season record at 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.Â

The Bulldogs faced the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith in the opening match and lost by scores of 14-25, 16-25 and 10-25. Bowie State tallied 82 total attacks and 16 kills versus Johnson C. Smith, with sophomore
Chelsea Beaudoin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) leading the way with four kills while sophomore
Oladia Menchaca (Landover, Md.) and freshman
Madison Marshall (Albany, N.Y.) added three kills each. Junior Sahlom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, Md.) chipped in a pair of assists apiece for the Bulldogs and sophomores
Soljala Jones (Washington, D.C.) and
Jahtera Kiah (Stevensville, Md.) accounted for one kill each in the losses.

Tucker was responsible for a team-high 12 assists for the Bulldogs while Beaudoin picked up a team-best eight digs. Marshall and Tucker tied for second best on the team in digs with six each.

Johnson C. Smith was led by Gorana Bogdavic and Karizma Brooks with seven kills apiece and Cydney Calhoun chipped in a game-high 15 assists in the win over Bowie State.

In Bowie State's second match against Livingstone, Menchaca paced the Bulldogs with a team-high six kills on 17 attacks and added a half dozen digs and a pair of service aces. The Bulldogs tandem of Jones and Beaudoin contributed four kills each in the setback and Tucker accounted for 11 of Bowie State's 19 assists versus the Blue Bears. Jenkins and Tucker combined for half of Bowie State's 30 digs in the nightcap.

Jekisha Rhymes along with Victoria Onozie led all Livingstone players in kills, putting down nine apiece. Rebecca Brown was the leading set up artist for the Blue Bears, tallying 11 of the teams' 24.
