BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women's basketball team outlasted Johnson C. Smith 60-57 at the A.C. Jordan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Pere Alexander led the team in scoring with 14 points as the Bulldogs move to 11-1 on the year and 3-0 in the CIAA. Junior
Kyaja Williams had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to help Bowie State extend its winning streak to 10 in a row.
Dejane James led all Johnson C. Smith scorers with 17 points for the Golden Bulls, who fall to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA. Johnson C. Smith did win the battle on the glass, outrebounding the opponent 47-38 with DeNajha Porter and Imani Montalvo pulling down 10 each.
The Bulldogs led by small margins in the first period 11-8 at the 5:20 mark before two quick layups and a jumper by JCSU's James and Blair Thomas gave the visitors a 14-11 lead at the 3:32 mark. Junior
Amel Duggins' corner three pointer tied the game at 14-14 to end the first period.
Despite their record, the Golden Bulls kept the game close throughout the second period and 27-24 with 2:42 remaining in the first half. A James three-pointer with 35 seconds left in the second period gave the visitors 32-29 advantage going into halftime.
James picked up where she left off in the first half with a triple to start the third period, followed by a jumper by Le'zarea Bowens to provide JCSU's largest lead 37-29 at the 8:04 mark.
The Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 37-all with 3:02 left in the third period and ended three quarters of action with a 43-41 lead over the Golden Bulls.
Bowie State used the final quarter to close out Johnson C. Smith after what looked like an upset throughout the game. Alexander's free throws increased the lead 53-49 with 2:34 in the fourth period. However, Johnson C. Smith was not going away without a fight, scoring four straight points to create the games 11th tie at 53-all.
The Bulldogs outscored the Golden Bulls 7-4 over the final 1:37, all by way of the charity stripe to seal the victory.
Bowie State is back in action on Monday, January 7 as it continues CIAA play at home against Livingstone College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
