Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, Md.) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead #23 Bowie State University women's basketball to a 55-39 victory over Fayetteville State University on Saturday afternoon in the A.C. Jordan Arena.

Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win. The Bulldogs remarkable start to the season sets the Bowie State record at an impressive 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the league play.
For the contest, both teams were pretty even in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored the Broncos in the last three periods and finished the game shooting 37 percent (23-of-62) from the field, including 3-of-18 behind the 3-point line while holding a 49-37 advantage on the glass over Fayetteville State.
The Bulldogs had a great first half highlighted by an impressive defense that held the Broncos to just 17 points after two quarters and strolled into the locker room with a 25-17 lead at the break. During the second period. Bowie State made a 6-0 run to push the lead to 10 before Fayetteville State's Shantel Bennett knocked down a pair of free throws to cut it down to eight.
Bowie State wasted no time jumping out to a double-digit lead in the third quarter, posting a 27-17 lead in the first minute of play. A 10-0 run from the Bulldogs gave the team a rather comfortable lead at 40-24 with three minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs logged 20-point lead with 4:07 left in regulation after Christian's jumper and had its largest lead of the game (22 points) at the 2:13 mark of the final period of play. The Broncos didn't have any answers for the Bulldogs as the team even with a pretty decent size advantage inside.
Bennet and Aminata Johnson led Fayetteville State (5-7 / 4-2 CIAA) with 11 points apiece. Johnson also led the Broncos in rebounds with eight and Chantel Williams pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.
As a team, Fayetteville State's Broncos shot 26 percent from the field (14-of-53), which included a frigid 1-of-11 beyond the arc and made 10-of-16 (63 percent) at the free throw line.
Bowie State will pause for the Christmas break before hosting Bloomfield College on Thursday (1/2) at 1 p.m. in the teams' final out of conference game of the season.
