With the victory, Bowie State remains undefeated at 12-0 and maintained the best start in school history since 1997 when the team began the season 7-0 before losing its first game. Bloomfield dips to 4-9 on the year. Last time the Bulldogs scored 90 plus points was December 11, 2013 vs Washington Adventist (91-56).Â
The Bulldogs took the win behind one of the best overall performances of the season. The team combined its usual strong defensive effort with some quality offense to claim the victory. Defensively, BSU held the Bears to just 43.3 percent (21-of-48) from the floor while forcing 25 turnovers. As a team, Bowie State shot 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the floor.Â
The Bulldogs logged an 24-0 lead to open the game before Caitlyn Townes deep ball ended the drought for the Bears at 24-3 with 2:57 remaining. The Bears carelessness with the ball combined with missing easy shots and BSU's defense cost them heavily in the first period. Bowie State scored season-high 35 points to end the first period. However, Bloomfield did manage to slow down BSU in the second quarter holding the team just 22 points but were unable to orchestrate any offense of their own to challenge the Bulldogs.
BSU continued their dominance in the third stanza posting 29 points while holding the Bears to just 10 points. Christian scored 13 points in the period and was active on both ends of the floor while shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Bowie State came up two baskets short of 100 points, something they haven't done since December 4, 2017 when they beat the University of the District of Columbia 100-57. The Bears did score 32 points in the fourth quarter but the damage was already done as the Bulldogs cruised to 96-65 win.
