Bowie State Softball Dominates Washington Adventist in Seniors Season Finale

BOWIE, Md. – Four Bowie State seniors went out on top in Sunday's season finale, dominating Washington Adventist 10-1 and 8-0 and finish the year with a record of 12-19.
 
Aseyah Alexander led the Bulldogs with four hits in four at bats over the doubleheader while six other Bowie State players had two or more hits. Jayla Pinkney, Madison Margas and Kristina Hawke accounted for three hits while Jaelyn Belt, Shanya Gordon and Tiffany Bearns tallied two hits apiece.
 
In the opening game, Bowie State jumped on Washington Adventist with five runs in the first inning and added another three in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a comfortable 8-0 advantage over the Shock.
 
Allendria Russell led off the top of the 3rd inning for Washington Adventist with a single and stole second. Raven Williams followed with a single, scoring Russell but the Shock trailed 8-1.
 
Bearns led off Bowie State's share of the 4th inning with a single and Belt laced a single, advancing Bearns to second. Pinkney stoked a two-out single, pushing Bearns and Belt across the dish to extend the Bulldogs lead to 10-1.
 
The Bulldogs defense did the rest in the top of the 5th inning, holding the Washington Adventist Shock scoreless and ended game one early by way of the 8-run mercy rule.
 
Bowie State pounded out 13 hits compared to seven for Washington Adventist. Pinkney led the Bulldogs with three hits.
 
Powell earned the victory in the circle, facing 22 batters over five innings and stroke out three.
 
Between games one and two, honored seniors Tiffany Bearns, Jaelyn Belt, Madison Margas and Morgan Powell with canvas actions shots as a keepsake for the respective four years of participation with the Bowie State Bulldogs program.
 
In game two was almost a carbon copy of game one as Bowie State plated runs in every inning and tallied nine hits in the shutout win. The Bulldogs plated three in the first, two in the second and third innings and closed out the Shock via the 8-run mercy rule in the top of the Washington Adventist fifth.
 
The Bulldogs recorded nine hits in the final game of the season and Hawke earned her eighth win of the year, allowing four hits and struck out a pair.
