Bowie, Md. – The Bowie State University women's volleyball team will resume Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division play on Saturday, Oct. 16-17 when the Bulldogs travel to Petersburg, Va., for matchups against Fayetteville State (N.C.), St. Augustines University (N.C.) and Livingstone College (N.C.).
On Saturday, the Bulldogs will face Livingstone at 11 a.m., followed by a tilt with Fayetteville State at 3 p.m. BSU will conclude the round-up on Sunday with a contest against St. Augustine's at 11 a.m. This event is hosted by Virginia State University and all matches will be played at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
The Bulldogs enter this weekend's round-up 1-13 overall, 0-7 in league action and 0-4 in division play. Last time out, BSU fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) to Shaw University. Junior Lydia Leiner (Sykesville, MD) led offensively with 10 kills and two digs while senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) aided with 14 assists. Additionally, freshman Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) dished out 12 assists while sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) collected 17 digs and junior Madison Marshall (Albany, NY) added eight kills.
The opening match against Livingstone (2-6. 0-6 CIAA) will be the 14th meeting between the Bulldogs and the Lady Blue Bears since 2008 as LC holds a 10-3 record over BSU. Bowie State fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) to Livingstone during the last outing in 2019. Leading the Lady Blue Bears offensively is Alexia Crutchfield with 39 kills, Dekiya Wilson-Thomas has 95 assists, and Ja'Nya Lunnermore owns 55 digs.
Bowie State and Fayetteville (9-5, 5-2 CIAA) will face each other for the 16th time since 2008. The Bulldogs have not won a match against the Lady Broncos. The last time these two programs met was in 2019, when BSU fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-11) to the Lady Broncos. Da'Nesha Miller is the team's leader in kills (107), Jaida Bynum is the team's assists leader with 319, and the leader in digs is Aeyane Mattress with a total of 149 stops.
Since 2008, BSU has won two out of the last 13 matches against St. Augustine's (6-8, 4-3 CIAA). In their last meeting, the Bulldogs won 3-0 (25-22, 25-18,25-14) over the Lady Falcons in 2019. Tionna Graham has a team-best 117 kills, Sydney Moore is the assister leader with 213 assists and Janina Mayers has the team-high 175 digs.
