Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team opened with a 25-21 set one win, but were unable to upend the Trojans of Virginia State in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action, falling 3-1 in their season finale.
Junior
Lydia Leiner (Sykesville, MD) recorded 11 kills and 11 digs while senior
Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) added 20 assists and sophomore
Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) aided a match-high 19 stops.
With a 1-0 lead, the second set got away from Bowie State when VSU (5-18, 3-1 CIAA) scored four unanswered points after being tied at 10. Unfortunately, BSU scored only five more points throughout the set as the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs, 15-5 to tie the match at one-even with a 25-15 set win.
The third set was a nail bitter and came down to the wire when an attack error from BSU, followed by a service ace for VSU provided a 24-22 edge in favor of the Trojans. BSU took advantage of a serving error but gave the Trojans the set win by committing a serving error of their own, 25-23.
Down 2-1, the Bulldogs took a 14-12 lead midway through the fourth stanza but VSU rallied to take a 20-16 lead capped off by a pair of slips from Bowie State. After a timeout, BSU put together a 6-1 spurt to close the gap (24-23) but a bad set from the Bulldogs, gave the Trojans the set win (25-23) and match win.
Bowie State conclude the 2021 season 5-18 overall and 3-11 in the CIAA.
