Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bulldogs Home Winning-Streak Snapped by California (PA)

BOWIE, Md. – For the first time this season, the Bowie State women's basketball team dropped a home game, falling to the visiting Vulcans of California (PA) by the score of 64-41 Saturday afternoon in A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs drop to 2-5 overall while Cal U improves to 6-1 this year. Prior to today's game, Bowie State owned a 19-game win-streak at home, dating back to the 2018-19 season. In 2019-20, BSU went a perfect 15-0 in A.C. Jordan Arena.

Bowie State jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening quarter with freshman Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) aiding four of the Bulldogs six points. A free throw from Dejah Terrell ignited a 9-3 spread that would get the Vulcans an 11-10 edge at the end of one.

The Bulldogs exchanged baskets with Cal U early on but it would be the Vulcans who controlled the second quarter as Cal U outscored BSU 23-8. Bowie State trailed by as many 18 points before senior Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, MD) scored the final bucket of the half with BSU trailing 34-18 at the break.

Bowie State came out the locker room with revenge, using a 19-11 to cut the deficit to single digits with 1:36 left in the third quarter but a 3-pointer from Terrell stretched the Vulcans lead back up to 11 (48-37) heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs could not get much going offensively in the final period, shooting just 2-for-15 from the floor. Both junior Chyna Butler (Syracuse, NY) and freshman Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) tried to spark the team, combining for BSU's four points scored in the frame but Bowie State never got closer than 13 points.

Harris was the only Bulldog in double figures, scoring 11 points, including 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Cal U's Terrell led all scorers with 32 points (13-16 FG) and seven rebounds.

Bowie State will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 14, when the Bulldogs begin conference play with a three-game home stand with Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone (Dec. 16) and Winston-Salem State (Dec. 20).
