Women’s Hoops to Begin Conference Play, Host Johnson C. Smith Tuesday

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women's basketball team will begin Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play Tuesday, Dec. 14 when the Bulldogs host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith for a 5:30 p.m. tilt inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

No Fans
Bowie State Athletics announced that there will be no fans, spectators or media allowed for the next two home men's and women's basketball games.

Last Time Out
Bowie State stands 2-5 overall, coming off a 64-41 setback to California (PA) Saturday. The Bulldogs hung with the Vulcans early on but had a rough time shooting offensively, in the second and fourth quarter, combining for a total of 12 points. Freshman Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) finished with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. The loss would snap the Bulldogs 19-game home winning streak in A.C. Jordan.

BSU averages 50 points per game, shooting just 32-percent from the field while its opponents average roughly 63 points. Harris is the team's leading scorer with 9.4 points per game while freshman Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) has a team-best 6.7 rebounds through seven games.

Scouting Johnson C. Smith
JCSU enters Tuesday with a 5-3 record with a pair of wins against Virginia Union (68-55) and Bluefield State (81-57). Ciara Harris paced the Golden Bulls with 16 points and seven rebounds while Tori Reid recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Tracey Kemp finished with 11 points to round out the double figure scoring in the winning effort.

As a team, JCSU puts up 66.4 points per outing (fifth in the CIAA), while defensively, the Golden Bulls ranks eighth in the league for opponent's points allowed (68.5). Two players average 10.6 and 10.5 points per game in Harris and Aubriana Bonner while Reid posts a team-high 6.4 rebounds a night.

The Series
Tuesday's game will mark the 17th meeting between the Bulldogs and Golden Bulls since 2009. Bowie State has the 9-7 edge over JCSU, including a 48-47 win for BSU from 2020. The Bulldogs are 4-2 against Johnson C. Smith in A.C. Jordan Arena.

What's Next
Following Tuesday's conference opener, the Bulldogs continue CIAA cross division action and will play host to Livingstone on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
