Bowie, Md. The Bowie State University volleyball team will hit the road on Saturday, Sept. 18th for a tri-match against Goldey-Beacom College and West Chester University (PA) from the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
Bowie State's match time between Goldey-Beacom is set for 12 noon, followed by a 2 p.m. start against West Chester (PA). Live coverage will be available on the CACC Network. Live stats can also be found here.
The Bulldogs opening match against GBC will be the 21st meeting between the two teams. Bowie State and the Goldey-Beacom just met on Sept. 9 that resulted in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20) win for the Lightning over the Bulldogs.
West Chester and Bowie State last met each other in 2017 when BSU fell 3-0 (25-5, 25-7, 25- 9) to the Golden Rams. This match will be the sixth meeting between these two programs as the Bulldogs are 0-5 all-time versus WCU since 2009.
Bowie state is 1-2 after claiming their first victory 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-13) against Trinity (DC). Junior Madison Marshall (Albany, NY) and junior Noel Snow (Mount Airy, MD) led the way with five kills apiece aided by senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) who dished out 20 assists. Defensively, sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) grabbed a match-high nine assists.
Goldey-Beacom (3-6) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Jefferson while West Chester (4-3) is coming off a 3-0 sweep against Felician in their last outing.
The Lightning averages 10.48 kills per set (346 kills), 9.79 assists (323 assists) and 14.97 digs (494 digs) per outing while their opponents average 10.91 kills per set, 10.06 assists and 14.85 digs. Team leaders remain Julia Syrdahl with 96 kills while Autumn Spendlove has 283 assists and Neshlian Roman Concepcion has collected 192 digs.
As for the Golden Rams, West Chester is averaging 12.08 kills per set (290), 11.21 assists (269), and 15.63 (375) digs per set while opponents are averaging 11.83 kills, 10.79 assists, and 16.08 digs per set. Offensively, the team leaders are Sarah Polacek doling with 89 kills while Jamie Byrne has collected 220 assists, and defensively Sydney Heffner and Mel June has posted 69 digs apiece.
