Bowie, MD. – The Bowie State University women's volleyball team will host Virginia State University on Thursday, September 23rd, in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference match-up slated for 6 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena.
The match will be broadcast live on the Bulldogs Sports Network. Live stats will also be available on www.BSUBullogs.com.
Thursday's match will mark the 25th meeting between the two programs since 2008. Virginia State has the all-time record over Bowie State at 23-1 overall. Last time these two programs met was in 2019 when the Trojans won 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-19) over BSU.
The Bulldogs are 1-4 overall after falling 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-14) to Goldey-Beacom in the opening match, and 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-10) to West Chester (PA) last Saturday in a tri-match. In the opening match against GBC, junior Madison Marshall (Albany, NY) led the way with five kills aided by senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) with 12 assists. Defensively, sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) recorded 14 digs.
During the second match against the Golden Rams, junior Noel Snow (Mount Airy, MD) finished with four kills while Tucker added nine assists. Washington also posted a team-high eight digs to lead the Bulldogs, defensively.
Virginia State is (2-6) overall after falling 3-0 twice to Adelphi University and Wilmington University at the Wildcat Regional Invitation last Saturday in Wilmington, DE.
The Trojans average 10.3 kills per set (269 kills), 9.6 assists (249 assists), and 13.0 digs (339 digs) per outing, while the opponents average 11.0 kills, 10.0 assists, and 13.6 digs per set. Helena Eubanks is the team's leader in kills (56), while Emma Quarles has a team high of 115 assists and Kennedy Hoge doling out 66 total digs.
