Bowie State Volleyball to Compete in CIAA Round-Up

Bowie, Md. – Hoping to snap a six match losing skid, the Bowie State University women's volleyball team will resume Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play on Saturday, Oct. 2-3 when the Bulldogs travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a conference matchups against Claflin University (S.C.), Johnson C. Smith University (NC) and Winston-Salem State University.

The Bulldogs will face Claflin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a tilt with Johnson C. Smith at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. BSU will conclude the round-up with a tangle against WSSU at 9 a.m.

All of BSU's matches will be played inside the Whitaker Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs enter this weekend's round-up 1-8 overall record and 0-2 mark in league play. Bowie State fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) to Elizabeth City State on Monday night. Junior Madison Marshall (Albany, NY) remains the team leader offensively with 36 kills, while senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) has 118 assists, and sophomore Neysha Washington (Winchester, VA) has collected 106 digs so far on the season.

Bowie State and Claflin (4-3, 2-0 CIAA) will square off for the third time since 2018. The Lady Panthers are 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. The last time these two programs met was in 2019, with CU taking a 3-1 (25-12, 15-25, 25- 12, 25-20) win. Claflin is led by Simone Newell with 58 kills, Monae Rowser is the team's assist leader with 96 and Trinity Fierce is CU's leader in digs (103).

Since 2008, the Bulldogs have lost nine of their last 12 meetings with JCSU (0-6, 0-2 CIAA). The Golden Bulls swept Bowie State during the last meeting, 3-0 sweep in 2019. Brianne Davis has a team-high 45 kills, while Jada Berry is the team's leader in assists (150) and Jeneene Lewis has a team-best 98 digs on the year.

Between the Rams (0-9, 0-2 CIAA) and the Bulldogs, Sunday's match will be the 11th meeting between the two teams since 2010. Bowie State is 0-10 against WSSU, including its most recent outing, falling in straight sets to the Rams (3-0) in 2019. The Rams leaders are Raven Gray with 77 kills, Angel Bowden with 89 assists and Myra Wallace with 89 digs.
