WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Bowie State men's basketball team hit 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game in regulation, but fell to Winston-Salem State, 69-62, in overtime Monday night at C.E. Gaines Center. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 7-14 overall (5-5 CIAA), while WSSU are now 14-5 (8-3 CIAA).

The Rams scored the game's first five points before the Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard with a layup from junior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) at the 15:38 mark. Bowie State would gradually whittle away at the Rams advantage when sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) scored on a layup that led to BSU pulling within two (23-21) capped off by a 3-pointer from sophomore Ayan Teel (Bowie, MD) with 56 seconds left but both teams would exchange baskets with the Rams holding a 25-23 edge going into the locker room.

The Bulldogs began the second half, trailing by eight after WSSU boosted an 8-2 run. The Rams lead lasted nearly 14 minutes until Bowie State scored five unanswered points to take a one-point advantage with 5:57 left in regulation. The lead changed and tied four times as the Rams scored on a 3-point play from Isaac Parson (2:33 left), followed by McCullough going 1-of-2 at the free throw line, sending the game into overtime.

Although Bowie State never took the lead in the in the extra five minutes, the Bulldogs closed the gap to one but WSSU ended up outscoring the Bulldogs 12-5 to put the game out of reach.

Teel led BSU in scoring with 16 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field while graduate senior Tyler Jones (Pleasantville, NJ) added 15 points and four rebounds. McCullough aided 13 points and three rebounds to round out the double digit scoring.
