BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's volleyball will travel to Richmond, Va., on Thursday, Oct. 20 to take on the Panthers of Virginia Union in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action.

The Matchup
Bowie State snapped an 11-game losing skid against Virginia Union during the last meeting which occurred on Sept. 29 in Bowie, Md. The Bulldogs will look to sweep the Panthers for the first time since 2008.
VUU owns the all-time record 23-5 against BSU dating back to 2008.
Bowie State
Bowie State stands 9-9 overall and 5-7 in the CIAA entering Thursday's competition. The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Lincoln (PA), returning to the win column after falling to Elizabeth City State on Oct. 13. Junior Lindsey Grossman (Albany, OR) and graduate senior Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, MD) who chipped in 12 and nine kills, respectively. Sophomore Regan Amos (Reisterstown, MD) posted a team-leading 11 assists, followed by Grossman's seven digs to lead the defense. Freshman Nadera Avery (Temple Hills, MD) had two of the Bulldogs three blocks.
Grossman was named this week's CIAA setter of the week – the first for the standout this year. She tallied 28 assists, 21 digs, 13 kills, two blocks, and a service ace for the Bulldogs last week. In the win against Salem, Grossman led the team with 21 assists and 14 digs, which were game-highs. In that game, she also had nine kills (second on the team) and a .450 hitting percentage. In the loss to Elizabeth City State, Grossman had seven assists, seven digs, four kills, and two solo blocks.
BSU has not won a game on the road this season with a 0-5 mark; however, the Bulldogs are 8-2 at home this season – the best home record in over a decade.
Virginia Union
The Panthers enter Thursday's match with a 10-9 overall record and 6-6 mark in the CIAA. VUU has lost its last three matches and stand 1-3 on the road this season. Virginia Union's lone home victory came against Goldey-Beacom back on Sept. 10 – a team Bowie State also defeated earlier in the season as well.
Virginia Union suffered a 3-0 sweep by Virginia State on Monday. Amilex Lopez-Ayala led the Panthers with 13 kills, two players registered four blocks apiece in Ashlee Franklin and Jade Lane while Franklin recorded 25 assists and Maysun Creery collected a match-high 20 digs.
