LINCOLN, Pa. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team earned its first road victory of the season in a five-set win over Lincoln (PA) Thursday night in Rivero Gymnasium. The Bulldogs won the thriller by the scores of 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 21-25 and 15-13.
The win improved the Bulldogs record to 10-11 overall and 6-9 in league play. Lincoln (PA) falls to 5-16 on the year and 1-12 in the CIAA.
Junior Lindsey Grossman (Albany, OR) registered her fourth triple double of the season with 16 kills, 23 assists and 11 digs while graduate senior Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, MD) added 16 kills, eight digs and three assists. Junior Rachel Sefton (Woodbine, MD) contributed a career-high 19 assists while sophomore Dayanna Robb (Glen Dale, MD) added a career-high 13 stops in the winning effort.
Bowie State and Lincoln (PA) played very close sets 1-4 which resulted in a fifth set. In the final frame, the Lions owned an 8-5 lead before the Bulldogs added two-straight thanks to a pair of miscues from LUPA that pulled BSU within one (8-7). Lincoln (PA) held the lead until the Bowie State went on a 4-0 run led by Grossman who had two kills to give BSU a 12-11 lead. After two ties, the Bulldogs scored the final three points on a kill from graduate senior Kendal Hoges (West Orange, NJ) and back-to-back kills from Ivey for the five set triumph.
Statistically, both teams were pretty evenly matched as the Bulldogs held advantages in blocks (7-6) and assists (47-45) for the contest.
Bowie State will close out the regular season on Monday, Oct. 31 against Virginia State. Game time is set 6 p.m.
